The series

The Mercedes-Benz W 112 is the most complex model in the Mercedes-Benz tail fin series with regards to fittings and mechanics. The official designation of the vehicle is Mercedes-Benz 300 SE, and it is available in two limousine models and as a coupé and convertible.

All 112 models are based on the virtually identical car bodies of their respective counterparts from the W 111 series and only differ in that they have a more extensive chrome trim (wide trim in the centre bead from the headlight to the rear light, wheel arch chrome trim and a wide chrome trim that covers the entire outer sill) and a much higher-quality interior in the limousines (real-wood frames, more exquisite fabrics with special designs). In terms of mechanics, the coupés and convertibles match the limousines, launched in February 1962, one year after the limousine (and the 111-series coupés and convertibles), and were part of the series until December

1967 – 2 years longer than its four-door sister models (but 4 years less than the 111-series coupés and convertibles). Unlike the limousines, they have no fashionable tail fins, a lower roof line and a more elegant and timeless appearance, which gained them classic status much earlier on. This timelessness also allowed them to be built practically unchanged in parallel to the successors of the 112-series limousines, the S-classes of the W 108/W 109 series. Nevertheless, only 2,419 coupés (W 112.021) and 708 convertibles (W 1 12.023) were manufactured.

The vehicle

The look with the exterior paintwork in a light metallic blue, with a blue fabric hood, elegant wooden interior and light beige leather, is very elegant and highlights the line of the convertible.

The vehicle has been extensively restored to a very high standard and is in top condition, both mechanically and visually. Like no other vehicle from the 60s, this model is representative of the high-class vehicle of the time: with advanced air suspension, a powerful engine and wide-ranging luxurious fittings. A divine car for whiling away the hours with family or friends. However, it will also make a great addition to an ambitious collection and is, without doubt, an investment with fantastic potential.
